Pulling a stump out of the ground takes the whole thing: the stump and the root ball under it. That leaves a hole, and we fill it with dirt and put down grass seed if the lawn needs it.
It is more work than grinding and it disturbs more ground, so it is not the right call for every stump. When grinding would do the job, we say so.
